Prawning

We (some friends from church and I) endeavoured to the south with the objective to catch 5kg of prawns. Unfortunately because of a few delays we did not leave as planned, but we were eventually on the road. Leaving at about 12am we arrived at Primbee at almost 2am in the morning. Straight away we headed to the waters and our hunt for prawns began. We were going in quite a good pace until we ran out of time. In the end we didn't manage to get as much as we would have liked, in fact we didn't catch that many at all - roughly 0.5 kg (about 1 lbs). It was fun nonetheless, the girls did well spotting prawns and the guys were great at scooping them up with the nets.

Afterwards we headed to the beach to relax and most of us managed to get some sleep. We also cooked our catch (prawns and some fish) on the barbeque and had them for lunch. Great outing, even though there were countless mosquitoes (I personally have over 20 bites on me).

Lately the days have been going comparatively slower, I think due to staying home all day. I guess it's good to be able to relax and take things abit easier. Can't wait for NYE though. It's going to be a blast, we're having our Sunday service at 12.05am. It's going to be a first (for us anyway), very exciting indeed.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone! Don't forget the real meaning of Christmas, Jesus is the reason for the season. Today was the debut performance of the Hope Church Choir and Drama team together. It turned out ok, I think we could have done better though, but in the end I think the most important thing was that the people enjoyed it (I hope).

This week has been filled with lots of eating, fun and laughter. On Thursday, my work had our Christmas lunch at Kobe Jones, which is a Japanese restaurant in Darling Harbour (City). The food was quite nice, however it was quite expensive.

Friday was the first day of Christmas holiday, so I spent the day cleaning the house and did some Christmas shopping. At night did some more eating since one of my uni friends had a birthday.

Saturday had a Christmas Eve special service at the Pastor's house, and yet some more eating and lots of fun too. Played a game called Balderdash. If you haven't played it, try it! (It's a boardgame)

Today was awesome! Christmas service really hit it off at Hope Church. Great to see alot of people turning up for it. Afterwards went to the beach, but I didn't swim. Just stayed on the sand playing othello with my friend and just talked for most of the time. Finally did some more eating at the place of a guy from church, he had a barbecue going, the food was totally superb.

Blessed

I'm baaaack... CAMP was absolutely incredible! Man I was so blessed just to be there. We learn't heaps about Revelation and the second coming of Christ. Hearing about all those terrible things (even terrible is an understatement) that's going to happen to the people who are not Christians. I hope I can get all my family and friends saved so that they won't have to go through the pain and agony. It will be so bad that people will want to die but they can't even kill themselves..... if you're reading this right now, I hope you will seriously think about where you stand right now. I pray that you will make the right decision, because I don't want to see anyone go through the eternal agony that will happen on this earth... and later in hell...

For those that have chosen to have Christ in their life, you can be assured that you will not go through the tribulation, but you must be faithful to the end... or it will mean nothing...

We had awards for a number of things and my team (ALPHA.. go ALPHA!) shared the best SWG (Serving With Gladness) team award. Which means the best team in serving others through doing stuff like encouraging, doing favours like getting food for them, drinks, etc.

Camp was so much fun! I can't wait for the next one =)

On another note, I went back to work today. Spent most of the day trying to figure out a problem one of the clients had with their printing. So I received quite a few phone calls and made quite a few as well. It's all good, at least it wasn't boring.

Church CAMP!

Leaving for camp in less than 12 hours! Woohoo! I'll be away for a few days...don't miss me too much haha... doesn't seem like many people will anyway... ciao!

On the third day of work...

...my true love came to me....NOT! hehe

I missed writing about the second day >< well the second day wasn't too exciting, except as I was about to go home I got a scare. I actually filled up my car with petrol and it cost about $25. I had no cash on me and I thought I had about $30 in the bank and so I could use my bankcard to pay. So I went up to the counter to pay and what happens.... "Transaction declined!"... I tried it again and the same thing happened... So I go to the ATM there to check my balance, and it turns out I only had $19 in my account. Then I started freaking (but not really, since I'm usually a calm person). I remembered that I had some coins in the car. I went back to the car to get the coins and there were $9 worth of coins..phew..
In the end I managed to pay it with my $9 of coins and the rest of it using my bankcard. Just today I received my pay (from my old job) so everything is ok now.

Earlier in the day I was given the "special" task of researching good notebooks (laptops) I would like for myself. It sounded awesome, but man it's hard work.

Today I started learning about Satellite Forms - the development tool to create the programs on Palm devices. It was pretty cool, I made a few small programs to try it out. So I'll be doing more of that later on.

2 more sleeps till camp... I can't wait.

First day

Had my first day of work at the new job. Nothing exiting really, spent half the day trying to install programs into my laptop (that they gave me). Since it was so slow, they might be giving me a better one. Then only did some actual work towards the last few hours where I started doing some evaluations on the scanXpress application.

Today I learnt what cous cous are. I've never eaten them before, but today I had it for lunch, it was pretty nice. If you don't know what they are, they are kinda like a rice replacement. Looks like small yellow grains, and it's actually made of wheat I think.

Trivia night a success

Trivia night was a big success overall and also for our team, being the winners and all hehe. Our home-made buzzers worked well, which was encouraging to see. The questions were very well thought out and nice to see some variety in the questions as well. I think the whole Trivia organising committee did an awesome job!

Feeling hot hot hot

Man last few days has been pretty hot, a couple of days ago it reached 40 degrees celcius (I think that would be 104 degrees fahrenheit). Definitely was not a good day to be going out. As soon as I stepped outside, I would start sweating. That was the worst it got so far anyway, lately it's cooled abit. Still hot nonetheless. I'd do winter over summer anyday I think... but my favourite is spring, not too cold and not too hot, it's just right.

Stayed at home today, for most of the time anyway. Feels like I haven't stayed home for a while, always been going out either to run errands or out with friends. It was good to stay home today I guess, gave me some time to take time out and relax. Took an afternoon nap, which I have probably never done in quite some time now. Finally got my room cleaned up abit, so the days didn't turn out so bad after all.

Youthopean of the year

Function-Y was on today, we had so much fun. This was our last "official" Youthopea (our youth group) meeting. I won the Youthopean of the year award, which is pretty cool. Totally unexpected, but praise God for everything He's done in my life. There were other awards as well like: best dressed, humble, helpful, encouraging and dedicated. They were won by others Youthopeans. Next week we're having trivia, so if you want to find out more check out the Youthopea website.

I got a second interview for the Amazon.com job I applied for. Again totally unexpected because I didn't think the first interview went too well. Since I already got a job I'll just do the interview but I might not be able to accept the job. After all the job will be based in Seattle...

Moving on

Well I guess it's time to move on. Praise God! I got a new job at IDFX (http://www.idfx.com.au) and I'll be starting next week. IDFX is a small IT company, and because it's only a small company, I'll be doing a little bit of everything, from development to customer service. Some of the good things to look forward to is that I'll get to travel around (Australia) for now. This is mainly because IDFX has clients which are based around Australia.

The location of the job is not very public-transport-friendly so that means I'm gonna have to get a car so I can drive to work. Pray that I will get a car and not just an ordinary one, but a good one.

Shurely good

Bought the Shure e3c sound isolating earphones today! It's great! At first it was ordinary, but the more you use it (known as burning in) the better the sound is becoming. Because it goes right inside the ear, it was somewhat uncomfortable at first, but the more you wear it the more you get used to it. I've been wearing it for only a few hours and it's much more comfortable almost to the point that I can barely feel it.

Well as they always say, you get what you pay for. I'm definitely getting what I paid for - it wasn't cheap that's for shure .. hehe

ALL done

Finally finished marking! yay! Been working heaps this week. On Tuesday I worked for 11 hrs (10 am - 8pm), Wednesday - 7.5 hrs (9.30 am - 5 pm), Thursday - 6.5 hrs (1.30 pm - 8 pm) and Today I'm gonna be working for 9 hrs (9 am - 6 pm). Well I'll be looking forward to the next pay day =D

On Wednesday night I went to the CCC (Christian City Church conference/event) at the Superdome. They had Bishop TD Jakes come to speak for 3 nights (Wed - Fri) and it was AWESOME! Guy Sebastian guest appeared and sung "Angels brought me here", I thought he was going to sing some worship songs. So I was a little bit dissappointed but nevertheless he was great. God really spoke to me that night, I'll write up a UniCell teaching about it.

Finally to top it off, the Socceroos were playing against Uruguay at Telstra stadium (which is right next to the Superdome). So after the service with Bishop TD Jakes ended, we caught the last part of the game and Australia were 1-0 up and they went into extra time! I was pretty shocked, but I hoped that Australia would win, because the Uruguayans were so self-righteous. So we stayed around to watch the game on the BIG screen. Because Uruguay had beat them previously 1-0, the socceroos needed to win by 2 goals to qualify for the 2007 World Cup in Germany.

After 30 minutes of extra time (sudden death), the scores were still 1 (Australia) - 0 (Uruguay). So effectively the scores were 1-1, and it was time for the penalty shootout. Apparently Uruguay have lost the last 3 or 4 penalty shootouts they've been in, so in that sense we had a pretty good chance I thought. Kewell was first up, and give Australia a 1-0 lead, the Uruguayan shot was taken next and Schwarz blocked it! The place was going crazy! It was 2-1 when Viduka was given the shot. To everyone's surprise, he missed! So the scores levelled at 2-2 and then an Australian shot puts them to 3-2. Shwarz the hero showed what a team the Australians are by blocking the next shot from Uruguay. So another goal to Australia meant that they would win. Aloisi did not dissappoint with his well placed shot. Australia had WON!!

YIPEEE!

WOW! I never really thought about the significance of today until now. I was like, hmmm ok what do I need to do now... wait a second... I have no more study to do!!! Woohooo!! Well I can relax for a little while. Actually I still have some marking to do, which I shall endeavour to do tomorrow. Right now, I think I'm just gonna relax for a little bit.

The end of another schooling milestone, and yet another beginning. The beginning of working life, for a while at least. I'm actually planning to do a Masters/PhD later on... yes more study =P but it won't be for a while I guess. Now that uni is done, I've got a whole heap of stuff lined up to do for the summer break. The main ones involving setting up the church database and UniCell preparations for next year.

Lanyard

I finally got the iPod lanyard. Now I'm wearing my iPod pretty much everywhere I go. It's great because I can listen to it anytime, without having to fiddle around with the headphone cord - very nice and neat.

Started holiday mode a little early, gotta get back to study mode now. =P

More study???

Well that's one of the things I've been considering lately... doing a postgraduate degree. Finishing my thesis was awesome, but I love it so much right now, that I'm still working on it. It reminds me of the time when I first learnt to program in QBASIC (it was coool..), now I've got a new toy, it's called Cocoa.

I had my demo yesterday, it went well, my assessor seemed pleased with what I've done. (pray for HD! hehe) I told him that I even worked on the application some more and he is interested to see what I've done and so told me that I could send him another page to add to my thesis. Fully praise God, because half-way through my thesis I would never have thought it would turn out this good.

YCG (http://www.youthcupgames.com/) was on today. It was the first round of volleyball or I like to call it V-ball =) We played two games and won one game and lost the other. That's ok we'll win them all next round ^^

World Usability Day

Yes today is World Usability Day. Held in over 70 cities and over 30 countries participating in this worldwide event. I was one of the privilidged to be able to show off my (thesis) work today. There were a few people from outside of the university. I was especially encouraged by the amount of interest some people had for my application.

I'm VREEEEEEE

Yessss I've finally finished the "all-important" thesis. Got it handed in about 6.5 hrs ago, feel so relieved that it's all over...haven't had much sleep in the last few days particularly last night. I stayed up practically the whole night and went to uni. So that means I've been awake for the past 35 hrs or so....wow....well I've heard stories that are worse.... but that's bad enough for me.

Thanks for the "encouraging" words to get me posting again hehe.

Now I can finally do all the other stuff on my to do list...

Busy Vee

I haven't updated my blog in almost a week...if you still don't get it from the title...I am a VERY BUSY person and going to be that way for the next week at least...since my thesis is going to be due in a week's time...

Gotta get cracking...if you don't hear from me anytime soon...see you all on the other side =P

SA...KA...TA!

Yes we had SAKATA today! For those of you that don't know what the heck I'm talking about, SAKATA is a brand of rice crackers. I brought some for today's UniCell meeting. What I did was I bought two different flavours, and I opened them and switched them around. So that they would be in the wrong packaging.

The point of this was to show that sometimes people label themselves as Christians but they don't really act like one. So it's like having a packet of Pizza flavoured rice crackers, but tasting like cream cheese.

So for those of you that have experienced this, i.e. known a Christian who didn't act like one. We're not all like that, but I guess just be mindful that we are human and thus we're not perfect either.

So the point is to LIVE out what you SAY. i.e. if you're a Christian, then act like one.

Boy-Girl Relationships

This started out as a comment for Warton's blog, and all of sudden it turned out to be a full on post. So here it is.

We talked about this subject for a month at youth. Note: I am saying all this in a Christian's perspective.

The list we all make is almost never satisfied. Why? because we only think about the physical...so in that sense there can never be a "perfect" partner. However God does has a perfect partner for you (unless He has called you to celibacy) and that perfect partner will have Godly qualities. They may not be perfect (as nobody is perfect) but over time both you and your partner will be able to grow to be more and more like Him.

Now when you look at things that way, instead of things getting uglier as time goes on (things get saggy, wrinkles, etc.) When you look at things in God's eyes, as time goes on that person would be getting more and more beautiful.

As for girls making the first move. Generally I think it's better for the guy to make the first move (I'm a guy....yes it's hard...even though I've never done it...I can imagine it =P). The reason why the guy should make the first move is because the guy should be taking charge of the relationship. The bible says that the man is the head of the household. Of course there would be cases when the girl is the one that initiates the conversation and that would be ok, but it's still the guy's job to initiate the relationship.

Finally as for marrying young. Divorce rates are increasing. This is because people rely on their feelings too much, they might get married and then a few years down the track they don't feel like being married anymore. So personally I wouldn't be getting into any personal relationships until I am ready, i.e. I can provide for my partner and also I am spiritually mature among other factors.

Go the WALLABIES!!

We went to Hurricanes for dinner today and guess who we saw there?? The Wallabies were there! I'm talking about the Australian rugby union team. I saw Gregan, Rogers, Tuquiri, etc. they were all there. It was pretty cool since this is the first time I've seen them in person (I've always watched them play on TV).

Afterwards we went bowling, it was pretty good. One of my bowls hit the gutter and then popped out and hit the pins. Now that's skill.. ^^

I WON!!

Praise GOD! I'm soo happy as you can imagine after you've just won something. I didn't even know I won it until the prizes actually got delivered. I came home today and I saw a box on the table with my name on it. At first I thought it was just an old parcel box. However after closer inspection I saw that it was actually sealed. One in a million

All my life I've caught the buses and never have I been in a defected bus. I've been on broken down trains, but never buses. Well today (yesterday) was the day, the bus was somehow possessed because every few seconds or so the back door would just open. It went on for some time until the bus driver got everyone out and told us to go to the nearest bus stop to catch another bus to uni.

So in the end I ended up being late for my lecture...not that it really matters anyway because I didn't pay attention half the time, mainly because I didn't get a chance to print out the lecture notes. Besides I prefer to read the textbook.

Family or career

I was supposed to post this yesterday but anyway...

My friends (mostly girls) and I were having a discussion on whether we should pursue a PhD/Career or be able to stay home to nurture the kids. The dilemma faced by one of my friends was that she wanted to be a relatively young mum (i.e. no more than 25 yrs). The problem is that she would also like to pursue a PhD which means she won't finish until she's around 26.

The problem is that if she does decide to pursue a PhD then she will have to hold off getting a kid until later (which she doesn't want to do). However if she decides to have the kid then she won't be able to pursue a PhD/Career, because she wants to be able to look after the kid herself until at least the kid has grown up.

What would you do?

Hot and Cold

Today is a public holiday for people in NSW, Australia. So everyone (or most people anyway) had a day off (school, work, uni, etc.) It was a pretty nice day, sunny, warm, a typical day for the beach. But nooo I had to go to uni to do my assignment. I heard it was soo HOT outside, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I was inside the computer labs most of the day and it was soo COLD inside.

On the way home from uni, one of the traffic lights in the city seemed to have got a bug. The light stayed on red (even though there were no cars going the other way), for over 10 minutes! I think it got caught in an infinite loop because my friends and I stayed there in the corner waiting for it to go green, but it didn't. We walked for another block and still it was red. The cars were piling up, drivers were wondering what was going on...eventually people who were daring decided to just run the red light.

I didn't stay long enough to know what happened...so I guess you can just use your imagination ^_-

YES!

Due to popular demand (hehe), yes I am still posting. Been having a break from uni, but don't let that fool you. I've got an assignment that is due this break. My todo list is getting bigger and bigger...

YES! for the fact that I've finally finished marking assignment 1 for HCI. Hopefully I didn't make any mistakes..ugh..

Had an awesome time at HomeCell. We had a "cooking" night, we brought food and things to cook. I bought stuff to make tacos - mind you this is the first time I've ever made tacos. Well maybe it's the seconds time counting the time I made them during the Food tech subject in high school.

Anyway it turned out pretty good, chicken tacos it was. After eating we spent a couple of hours playing Singstar (Playstation 2 game). Pretty fun, I'm starting to get into this karaoke thing now. Now the problem is there's only 30 songs in the game. Gets boring once you play it a few times.

Oh well, hopefully I'll be able to get the other Singstar games later so we can have more songs.

If people are wondering my iPod nano is just fine. Heard about how people managed to crack their screens and stuff - pretty scary. Mine's still good though =)

Good news and bad news

The good news is that I finally got my iPod Nano. My very first MP3 player, very happy with it so far.

The bad news is that today was the last lesson for Latin Dance. We all received a certificate, but I guess now if I don't practise I'm going to forget it. Well it was fun while it lasted, hopefully I'll be able to make it next week at the "graduation party".

Combined

Our bible study group was combined (UNSW and UTS) it was awesome. We all went into our cozy little study room in the library. Had an awesome time talking about prayer, and at the end we spent some time praying for each other and the univeristies as well.

My nano came today!! but no one was home to take the package...grrrr...ok God I'll be patient...

Heard about the new Nintendo Revolution controller? It's soo cool, I want to get one now. Well it's not released yet. So I'll get it next year when it comes out.

Got a job interview tomorrow, downside is I gotta get up early, and also the fact that I won't be home for the nano delivery (again). The good thing is that I have a good feeling about this interview. Just gotta trust God and do my best I guess, and He'll do the rest.

I know a few people that are not feeling too well, so I'll be praying that you all get better soon.

iPod Nano

Yes that's right, the brand new iPod Nano is coming into my hands soon hehe =P The wait has been worth it, it's exactly what I've been waiting for (shuffle with a screen). Not only is it what I want, but it's beyond my expectations.

Today was the second last dance class for this semester. Today we were taught to do the jive, I still can't do it properly ... probably because I was late for class... so I had no idea what was going on.

Spoons

We played a game called "spoons" at the UniCell meeting today. For those that don't know how to play it's quite simple. You need a deck of playing cards and some spoons equal to the number of people playing minus one, i.e. if you have 5 people playing then you'll need 4 spoons.

Before you start the game you need to sort out the cards so that you pick out 4 of a kind for a particular card, e.g. all four kings. You need to do this for each person that is playing. So if there are 5 people playing you need to pick out 5 of these 4 of a kind, it doesn't matter which one you pick. So if there are 5 people you should have 20 cards.

Place the spoons in the middle of the table or the centre of the circle. The dealer then deals the cards to each player and each player should have 4 cards. The aim of the game is to get the same four cards, it can be any value. To do this each player must pick a card he/she doesn't want and pass it to the left. Keep doing this until someone gets 4 of a kind. When that happens, the person that got the 4 of a kind picks up a spoon. Now all the other players must also try to get a spoon and the one that did not get a spoon loses. Usually there's some form of punishment, but I'll leave that up to you.

So yea, that was quite fun. We talked about how playing spoons is similar to how we manage our time. We need to be careful what we keep and what we throw away. So in a way we need to be careful of how we prioritise different things in our lives.

Cafe-cell

We were homeless for Wednesday night home cell. So instead we had Cafe-cell...hehe. Basically we had our meeting at a Gloria Jeans (similar to Starbucks). It was good, we ended up spending most of the time reading magazines, but it was all good.

A God day

A good day indeed. Had our first university cell group meeting. It was awesome, had an awesome word from Proverbs 6:6-8 (which I shared). There were 4 of us at the bible study, more should be coming next week.

Got some "significant" progress happening with my thesis project (according to my supervisor anyway) so I'm pretty happy with that. Now I need to keep this going.

Unreal!

WOW! is all I can say, there are no words to describe God's goodness. To think that I have come as far as I have now. Ten years ago I would never have dreamed to come this far. When I was in school growing up, I was just an ordinary kid, I didn't do that well at school, just barely passing.

Ten years later... I'm attending one of the top universities in Australia (UNSW). Now not only am I a student, I am also employed as a casual tutor and lab demonstrator in one of my favourite subjects (Human Computer Interaction).

Then I started to think, how much I'm actually doing these days. I'm doing my thesis, working as an IT Service Desk Analyst, doing casual tutoring and very soon I will be leading a cell (bible study) group at uni. I would never have imagined to be where I am right now.

God is awesome, He is truly the way, the truth and the life. Keep persevering, only God can turn the 'unreal' to something 'real'.

First time

The first time I had ever heard of a "food date". Well I had "lunch" (which was mainly coffee and she brought some breakfast bars for us to eat) with my friend, and so it was our so called "food date". I thought it was pretty funny =P

The first time I've been to karaoke. Can you believe it? I'm like almost 22 and I've never been to karaoke! Well it's about time and it was lots of fun too. I can't wait for the next time we go. I so want to get the singstar game (Playstation) but then I gotta think about how much time I'll have to play it...

Well you've probably noticed there's no tagboard, well..that's because the one I was using broke...this is the second time now, so I'm reluctant to putting another one up, unless people really want it, hook me up with some reliable tagboards, and it HAS to be FREE.

Not this time

Me and my friend was planning on taking the ballroom class today. I called up this morning to see if there was any room, and yes there was, 2 spots left...so yay...but then when I asked if there would be enough girls (my friend being a guy) the guy told me that there was already a 50/50 split, i.e. 19 guys and 19 girls. The class size is capped at 40, and so if we were to join it would be 21 guys and 19 girls, meaning 2 guys would miss out...so we decided not to take it this time. It's strange to see so many guys joining the dance class, in the latin dance class it was like 7 guys to about 12-14 girls. So that was good, for the guys haha... oh well I guess I'll have to do ballroom another time...

Man I'm starting to realise how little work I'm doing on my thesis. I haven't met up with my supervisor for weeks, he's not gonna be happy :\ ok time to get into gear and get some work done ...

Me dance???

Well you probably don't believe but yes I've started taking dance classes. Today was the first class (Latin dance) and we learnt how to do the salsa and samba. It was pretty good, I had heaps of fun, the lesson seemed really short...I feel like dancing some more haha

Training at church

Sometimes people ask, why do you have to go to church? Isn't it enough to be a Christian and as long as you don't do the wrong thing?

Well there are many reasons, but one of them is training.

Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.

When we train for anything, whether it be sports, a skill for a job, there would always be someone there to teach us. It could be a coach, mentor, teacher, etc. If we wanted to get better we wouldn't be able to do it without meeting our teacher. So it's the same as Christians, we need to continually meet our teacher, Jesus Christ, because He is the one that knows all about us. After all God is the one that created us.

This is just one of the many reasons there are for going to church. Just because it seems like a lot of work, don't be discouraged. I hope you all will be able to enjoy going to church as much as I do, maybe even more =)

Foreigner

Well I just realised I haven't posted for over a week! yikes...sorry peoples, I've been pretty slack with my blog lately. Well just a quick run down on what's happened the past week.

- Went to SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineering) convention at Darling Harbour, Sydney. The highlight of that was probably the magician. Good thinking for the people trying to sell the cameras, because he did manage to get quite a few people to go to his stall.

- Found out that I'm going to be tutoring at Uni. Which is gonna be pretty cool I think. It should be fun being the teacher for a change =P

- We're hosting a Japanese student (on exchange). Despite the fact that I'm giving up my room for him, it's been pretty cool. I can practise my Japanese on him =P We took him out to the city, saw the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge and then went to Darling Harbour and we took a look at the Sydney Aquarium (which I've been to .... I'm not sure how many times, I've lost count).

Today we supposedly had choir practice but it was cancelled because our teacher wasn't feeling well. Just tonight we went to Double Bay for ice cream...yumm. The place is called French Riviera, it's famous for the huge ice cream towers. We had the biggest one, called "Maxi" and I'm guessing it would be at least 20 scoops of ice cream, stacked up in a bowl. Had 7 people eating it, and so yea we managed to finish it. Afterwards we were soo cold though, especially since it's winter here.

Funeral

I went to a ceremony tonight...it was a Buddhist ceremony...with lots and lots of incense the room was filled with soo much smoke...oh man our eyes were hurting. It was interesting to experience it though. When someone has died, do you think it makes any difference what happens to them in the way we do things here. Well during the ceremony it seemed like they were trying to "please" the buddha by praying and bowing to him and offering gifts, so that the deceased would go to heaven. I don't know about you, but it doesn't make sense to me. Where you go surely depends on the person. There is nothing we can do that will affect it. It's like begging God so they can go to heaven.

The only way we can go to heaven is clear: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish BUT have everlasting life" - John 3:16

In other words we need to accept and believe that Jesus died for our sins so that we can be made clean again. In heaven there can be no sin. There is no way we or anyone can clean us of our sins, but God gave us a second chance through His son Jesus Christ. I pray that people would make the right decision before it's too late.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I hate being sick =(

Luna Park

Today I was actually planning on staying home to do some uni work (I am soo behind). Instead my sister (older) asked me if I wanted to go to Luna Park. For those who have no idea what is Luna Park, it is an amusement park. So since my sister offered to pay for the ticket, I thought I may as well go, after all what have I got to lose...

So I ended up going, a friend of mine wanted to go as well, so she came and brought her little brother along. We got to the park at about 2pm and so we had 4 hours to go on as many rides as we can (since the park closes at 6pm). Even though we had 4 hours, I knew it was never going to be enough. I don't think we even covered half of the things that were there, and some of the rides were also closed, so that was a shame.

Some of the things we rode on were Wild Mouse (a rollercoaster type ride), Flying saucer (similar to a gravitron where they spin you really fast, but it also spins vertically), Dodgem cars (always a favourite), Spider (another one of those spinning rides, which was surprisingly fun). The only regret I had that day was going on the Ranger ride (which is like a pirate ship ride, where it spins you upside down). After that ride, I started getting sick and feeling light headed. Not long after that I went on another ride that spun you around and around, which did not help at all. I felt so sick I vomitted afterwards (in the toilet of course).

Apart from getting sick, it was a really fun day. I got to meet my friend's little brother, which was cool.

Fantastic 4

A fantastic day capped off with a fantastic night of watching Fantastic 4. The movie lived up to my expectations more or less. The characters were well done, the visual effects were stunning. Although I would've liked to see a little bit more action, I think this movie sets the platform for a great sequel, which would be nice to see.

The story revolves around a group of scientists (and friends and family) trying to conduct an experiment which could result in saving many lives. Of course things did not go as planned. I won't say anymore in case I accidentally reveal anything.

My rating: 7.5/10

What a week...

What an awesome week it has been, mostly because of the Hillsong conference night rallies. The first night I went we were a little late, so we only managed to get into the overflow, which meant we had to watch the proceedings on a big screen rather than live. The next night was better, we managed to get in and see it all live. We saw Cece Winans lead us in a time of worship - it was really good, except it would have been better if we knew her songs.

On Wednesday night Seven Hills homecell (bible study group) had Chocolacicous Night. We played games, ate chocolate, trivia, ate more chocolate, more games and more chocolate. It was great, and I even got myself a CD, which was really cool.

On Thursday night it was Hillsong again, and this time there was a few more of my friends there. It was soo amazing, praising and worshipping God with Michael W Smith leading us. Sometimes I tend to be more conservative when praising and worshipping God. That night was totally the opposite, I was jumping up and down, singing my heart out until I started to lose my voice. Nevertheless with some water I was back at it. Maybe it was just the atmosphere that made me be able to do that, but that's what I want to do. To be able to praise and worship God without having to think about what others might think. That is the start of true worship.

On Friday I would've liked to go to Hillsong again, but work mates had a dinner to say goodbye to our former manager. Even though I don't know him that much, it was nice to socialize with the group. I kinda regret not having tried at least 1 cocktail (since they were half-price), oh well maybe next time.

To cap it off I got to work today which was great, because I've spent quite a bit this week, on CD's, books, food, petrol, etc. So at least I'll be getting some extra money next time I get paid. You know what, the sowing principle does work, I actually gave up one of my shifts next week for a friend who forgot to put in his availabilities and I ended up getting the saturday shift as well. Also just recently another one offered me their shift for next week (on a different day). So in giving up one day's work, I got back 150% as much (1 and a 1/2 days).

How awesome is God!!! Praise God, forever and ever!!

Tim Tam

For those that are thinking - what the heck are Tim Tams??

Tim Tam is an australian snack (made by Arnotts). It is basically a chocolate biscuit, filled with chocolate center and covered in more delicious chocolate =D

A friend of mine told me this neat trick.

Get Tim Tams and some milk. What you need to do is bite the ends of the Tim Tam, and use it like a straw to drink the milk. It's very cool. As you drink the milk the chocolate in the Tim Tam will slowly melt and get softer.

Soccer

YCG didn't turn out as we planned. Only managed to play half a game, but Youthopea (that's my team) would have won anyway =)

We couldn't play because the grounds were closed due to the wet weather the past few days leading up to the games. Instead we went to watch Batman Begins. The movie wasn't too bad, but because I had such a high expectation for it, it was a little disappointing. Some of the scenes could have been done better, and sometimes the movie just seemed to drag on and on.

Well at least the day wasn't wasted...

Holi-days!

Exams are finally over! woohoo...that wasn't so bad now was it? hehe. Actually it was much better than I would have imagined. The first exam I had (Wednesday) was for User Interface Design and Construction, I didn't study that much because most of it you can't really study for. Praise God he helped me get through that exam, it wasn't too bad. Next (and last) came the one subject dreaded by most CSE students, Operating Systems (Thursday). In the past people have said how easy the final exam was, and good thing they were right. I studied quite a bit for it and I'm glad how it turned out. Of course I couldn't have done it without God, he gives me what wisdom I have today.

After my last exam on Thursday, it was raining that day so we couldn't really do much. So me and a couple of my friends decided to go to Eastgardens and watch a movie. We decided on War of the Worlds, in the end, we kinda regretted watching that movie. I think you get the point. I realised that it was the last day of the financial year and the sales are ending soon, but because of the rain, I couldn't be bothered going to the city.

Pray that it doesn't rain tomorrow for YCG (http://ycg.hopemissioncentre.com/).

Church choir

Well we got put into our vocal groups today. I was in the baritone group, so that's like the mid-range for the males. Not too low and not too high, it's juust right =P
We had our first practice run as a 3 piece choir and it was awesome! No Amanda it didn't rain =)
Praise God for that, even though we're doing pretty well, we have only just begun, and there is still plenty to practice and learn.

Exams are closing in on me ... nooo!! it only felt like a few days ago that I still had 3 weeks, but now the gap has closed to 3 days!! No more slacking off now ...

Home sweet home

came home today from uni, hallelujah, praise GOD!....now you're probably thinking why am I so glad to be home...well today I had to go home today by myself and the last bus was at 9.28, but I got to the station at 9.50 (ish) soo...I ended up walking home...in the dark and all, which reminded me of this verse:

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." - Psalms 23:4

So praise God for getting me home safely =)

Lazy

Was planning on doing some work at uni today, but ended up bludging all day at work (not surprisingly). I never get anything done in there. I better get this assignment done before I get in trouble, my lecturer's already given way too much of an extension.

All day I was feeling pretty ok, and just when I'm about to do some serious work, I get a headache...great...now it's time to sleep =P

Firstly praise God for the rain, because I did ask for rain. Rain means fresh air, which is good since there are heaps of sick people.

Got a haircut today, the usual short stuff ...

The pastor from my old church had a birthday party, so we had dinner there. The desert was sooo good. It was trifle, if you don't know what it is, well it's a layered mixture. There's a layer of soft spongy cake, then a layer of rich creamy custard, next there's a layer of fresh juicy fruits and finally topped off with sweet cream ... mmmmm ... andmost importantly it's all made with low fat stuff so there you go ^_-

As sick as a dog

Headache, body ache, major nasal congestion, fever and to top it off, my nose bled twice today...and that pretty much sums up most of the day...

On a more positive note, I got some work done on my assignment, now my drawing app can print and I've got preferences to change the background colour. Also finished the UML class diagram for it (well I hope it's right).

On the bus to central one of the people I helped while working (at IT Service Desk) remembered me, because I was helping her to get on to UniWide. So we chatted until Central, about stuff. That was unexpected, but I guess at those times, makes you feel good that you're working at IT Service Desk.

I'm going to sleep before 12 tonight...well trying to, this would be the first time I've slept before 12 since December I think...

Close but no cigar

Just got home from Uni, doing the OS assignment, well you know what, we managed to pass the "huge" test (we passed the 2nd test) but that was in a way just a coincidence because we didn't implement everything yet. So by the looks of it we should be close to finishing, let's hope that the past few days of staying late at uni is going to pay off.

A few of my friends have OO projects due tomorrow (and some are also doing OS ..), so hope they can make it. Amanda has 2 exams tomorrow as well. Will be praying for all of you. God bless.

Things are looking up..

for OS anyway, finally got some part of the assignment done (and working, i.e. haven't broken it so far =P )
still got the hard part to do

can't wait for holidays, albeit I'll most probably be doing my thesis, web stuff and maybe practice my singing (since I joined the church choir now...yes I know...Victor sing?? what the??). I'm leaving it up to God, nothing is impossible with God, even getting me to sing =P

Strange dreams

been getting them lately. 2 nights ago I had a dream that this girl (who I don't personally know) calls me up out of nowhere. Then I had a dream that I was leaving to go somewhere, me and one of my friends (who also happens to be a work mate) started this game where we call each other bad things and then eventually cried and hugged...because I was leaving...strange because that's not like me...I don't think...

Last night I had another dream where another friend of mine doing a similar course asked me to play something, and he showed me this thing that could "cleanse" you (rectally)...weird...because the thing is you're meant to lie down (without clothes of course) with legs apart and hold this thing that looks like a hose...I still don't get it...

Do these things mean anything? we'll just have to see....

Procrastination

Phew...Uniwide installs can really take it out of you. Trying to think of a name for my browser, so far the names I've thought up are:
- Hawk
- vBrowse
- CHIBA (Computer Human Interaction Browsing Analyst)

Stil not sure which name to give it, CHIBA seems the most original, but I might think of some other names later. Got until Wednesday to decide I guess...I really should get going with this seminar, so I can do other work as well ¬_¬

Money

That's what it all comes down to everytime...
Had a conversation today with my brother in-law and it brought to my attention that everything we do now, all the development, might make our lives easier in some ways, but it also makes it harder in ways such as food, more and more people are heading toward the city life where all the MONEY is and there are less and less workers at the farms. So inevitably the prices for food will increase. Well it doesn't help if all we're using our money for is food..
So why can't we do anything? because we are not the creators of those plants and animals, we can't improve it, only God can. We can try to help things along, but that's about it. The only other way is to do things artificially...which I am not going to support at all.

So it is inevitable, after all this is the fate that all humans must realise because of our own disobedience.

Cleaning

That's what I did for most of today. Which is good, now my room seems bigger. Haven't alot of sleep lateley due to thesis and assignments, and I'm starting to feel a fever coming on, probably the reason why I got nosebleeds last 2 days.

Thesis A report is finished!! The report ended up being 40 pages long, it doesn't seem like I did much work though. 2 more things left to do, user interface assignment and thesis seminar (next week).

progressing ever so slightly. Introduction is almost done..I think..still much to write..still yet to finish the first usability test review...found some things that I did not find while doing an expert review, and for the next usability test, we're going to try MyBrowser. Just going to use the Run log to keep track of things, couldn't get poseAsClass to work, probably just end up doing a copy paste of the Run log..

Got a few mouse events to work with my MyBrowser. I used a number of delegate methods to do this.

OS Assignment is taking way too much of my time. Only today I finally got it to work properly (with some help) -_-'

It's almost 10.30pm and I'm still in the labs...I'm hungry as well...time to go home I guess

I've got the power!! ... I think..

I finally got Office today. I also got iWork and a 512 stick, which means I've got 1GB of ram now, so hopefully don't have to worry about running out of ram anymore. Didn't get much work done at all today, cept we got Ethics done, I think. Just when I'm about to do work I get a throbbing headache, and now that I'm tired and need to sleep, the headache is gone...

So weird....

Mmhmm

OS is alot more difficult that I thought it would be, especially since we have to do a design document. Only managed to get through some code today, didn't really settle on anything yet, still need to think about how we're going to do.

Today was the last day of Koorong's 15% off sale, went there with Mary and Chim. Saw Alli there and some other people from church (which I forgot their name). Got myself a nice bible and a Relient K cd, guess which one??

Usability test plans

Did a few usability tests today. Used the L3 lab in CSE to conduct a test, I was the subject, which was pretty weird. Alot of people might think that being the user is easy, it's not that easy actually, because you need to be able to talk and be descriptive and open about everything.

Ethics is just about done, still need to finish the WebCMS review and usability test plan. Should get them done by Monday.

Show me thy glory

Only managed to get some coding (practice) done today...I spent a few hours helping some friends with their databases stuff...don't worry guys it's not your fault

Well at homecell we learn't about seeking the glory of God when problems or hard times come our way. I think I need to do this more often...when we get upset about something, rather than blowing up, we should pray and ask God to fill you with His glory and presence, because in His presence we have fullness of joy.

Not again...

Argh..I spent all morning preparing for the presentation and in the end I didn't speak...not even one word -_-'' apparently today's presentation was only a practice, the real one is next week o.O back to the drawing board I guess, need to fix up my essay as well...man I should be doing my thesis now...not happy Jan -_-

Almost there...

Finally finished my powerpoint slides for the presentation tomorrow, but am I ready for it? definitely not...not yet anyway...I think there's gonna be some improvisation tomorrow. Thidar finished everything today, she is just too good. It's a good thing we have her in our group =P I've been doing ethics for the past 3 days...this is insane, I need to do my thesis >< argh so much to do...and so little time...

My teeth is getting better now, not hurting as much which is good. I got the Maccas happy meal toys from Niken today. They're the dogs. They're so cute, I'll post some pics later. Too tired now, need to sleep, gotta get up at 6am tommorow to go to uni for work.

Oh and praise God I finally got someone to buy my iPod. Now I can buy other stuff hehe ^^

Privacy...

I have to do an essay on the values of privacy for Ethics. It's a group essay and we have to do 20 pages :/
there are 4 of us so that means 5 pages each...what to write?? what to write??

I should be doing it now...but if only I had things to write about...I've done about 1000 words, got another 1500 words to go :/
ok I've got a few points:
- to control information
- to protect our dignity
- to create intimacy
- to have relationships
- to restrict access
- to develop ourselves

Now the hard bit is expanding all this into a 2500 word document. To make matters worse my teeth hurst realli relli bad coz I just got braces for my bottom teeth. I'm hungry but every time I eat it hurts even more =(
