New Home

My days at Blogger have finally come to an end (for the time being)... I have moved on to (hopefully) greener pastures at Wordpress (it has several features which blogger is lacking). Later on I am hoping to host my own blog.

I've created a domain name: http://www.veekter.com which currently points to my blog hosted on Wordpress - http://veekter.wordpress.com.

What do you think of the name? Take a look and let me know what you think.

How to give a presentation

No it's not just about using powerpoint. Seth Godin writes in his blog about really bad powerpoints. I've pondered about what the differences are between an ok presentation and a very good presentation. Steve Jobs is one of the best keynote speakers I've heard and Seth's blog entry does point out some of the things which causes Steve's keynote to stand out from the rest.

As I will be beginning to speak at my youth group, I hope I will be able to apply these principles for myself.

Microsoft fixes the fix

I have always disliked the vulnerabilities of Windows, but today's dilemma with the animated cursor fix, really surprised me. The fact that Microsoft, out of all software companies, would release a patch, that still contained bugs.

So really in the end, it came down to performing a Windows update to fix the original problem and then the user has to put up with the error messages, until the hotfix is released to fix the problem which affects the Realtek HD Audio control panel.

For someone who doesn't know much about computers they wouldn't have the slightest clue that they needed to go to the microsoft support site to download the hotfix (since it doesn't seem to update automatically - not on my friend's PC anyway). Which I guess shows how Macs seems to have less problems that PCs, simply because Macs are fixed to a predefined set of hardware, whereas PC have endless hardware combinations.

For the hotfix go to this page: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/935448

Resources galore

Over the past week I have been checking out some interesting blogs and I had no idea that so many churches and even the pastors themselves are using this tool to share and help others.

One great blog I've been reading is called Swerve and it's the blog from the pastors (I believe) of LifeChurch.tv. Reading their blog has really opened my eyes as to how alot of churches fail to see some of the most basic principles and also how much more I need to learn as a disciple of Christ.

If you are a ministry leader or interested in what Christianity is all about, I strongly recommend having a read.

Also Youthopea is developing a brand new website so stay tuned, there will be plenty of cool stuff to be made available. One thing I'm excited about is that we will have our Channel-H available online! This week's Channel-H (you can see me on there - the guy in the trolley) is available so check it out at www.youthopea.com .

If you have a resource that you would like to bless us with, by all means please share.

Morning Blues

I was thinking about going for a run this morning, but instead I woke up way too late. Now my nose is doing the running! Catching a cold is very annoying, reduces my productivity to about 50% because 50% of the time I'd be blowing my nose.

However 50% is better than 0% right? So that's no excuse to be doing nothing, although I may not be able to do as much, I can still do something! Sometimes we just feel like doing nothing and we justify it by excuses such as, my laptop is in for a service (my PowerBook is being serviced at the moment) or that person won't mind if I don't share with them.

At Youthopea we learnt about being the light of the world.

"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden." - Matthew 5:14

I AM the light of the world, it doesn't say that I might be the light, but I AM!

So I'm going to choose to shine as bright as I can, no matter how sick I get. From this I hope to encourage everyone to do the same, because that is the only way we can live our lives to the fullest. No matter how big or small you light is, don't hide it, because event the tiniest ray of light can overcome darkness.

This little light of mine,
I'm gonna let it shine
This little light of mine,
I'm gonna let it shine
This little light of mine,
I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine,
Let it shine,
Let it shine.

The Great Salvation

"For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him," - Hebrews 2:2-3

In verse 2 it talks about the just reward. Everything we do has a consequence, doing the wrong of course would lead to punishment. For example if you were to be caught speeding you would get a fine. So it is with our lives, when we don't live our lives right before the Lord, we sin. The punishment of sin is death. However there is a way out, an escape route and this is the only way out.

Jesus came to earth to give us the great salvation, we cannot escape our punishment if we don't take this salvation that is offered to us. There is no other way, Jesus is the only way out.

I'm glad God still forgives me for my sins even though I still stuff up many times. God will love you unconditionally, so no matter how bad you think you are or however many times you've stuffed up. God will still forgive you, all you have to do is receive Him and repent from sins.

Lord, I receive your salvation for my life, forgive me of all my sins and be the King of my life. Thank you Jesus, in Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Christmas Eve

Why is Christmas celebrated on December 25th? Christmas is a day where we celebrate the birth of Jesus. So that means Jesus' birthday must be on December 25th. Technically this is not necessarily correct as there is no evidence to suggest that, it is only a date that has been given by the early churches. The next question you may ask is: why God didn't tell us Jesus' birthday? The thing is He could have, but He didn't.

Everything God tells us is for a reason. God didn't tell us Jesus' birthday because I guess it wasn't important. The birth or the coming of Jesus instead should be something we celebrate and remember each day, not just once a year. Knowing when Jesus is born would not make a difference.

As you celebrate Christmas, remember the reason for the season. Jesus Christ came to this world to save us all. This is the greatest gift of all - salvation - but will you receive it?
